Kennedy didn't spend half the budget on defense. Prove it.
Also we were in the middle of the Cold War then. Those nukes were very expensive. Biggest waste of money in the history of mankind on both sides.

Now our only enemies are small rogue nations and terrorist cells. We don't need the big fleets and nukes anymore. What we need is smart intel, international cooperation and fast striking surgical hunter-killer teams. We also need a president who is a smart diplomat not a knee-jerk super-hawk with oil in his brain.

Kennedy spent about 20% of GDP on defense. What % of GDP is Bush spending on defense?

<"Kennedy was no hawk"... but he spent 50% of the total
federal budget on defense!
This compares to only 20% of the budget for Bush.>

Kennedy had to face down 10,000 Soviet ICBM's and a military superpower. Thanks to his beginning arms control and reduction, that's down to 5000 Russian ICBM's today. This is a much greater REAL threat than Iraq before our invasion, and it remains so.
