Kennedy didn't spend half the budget on defense. Prove it. Also we were in the middle of the Cold War then. Those nukes were very expensive. Biggest waste of money in the history of mankind on both sides. Now our only enemies are small rogue nations and terrorist cells. We don't need the big fleets and nukes anymore. What we need is smart intel, international cooperation and fast striking surgical hunter-killer teams. We also need a president who is a smart diplomat not a knee-jerk super-hawk with oil in his brain.
