Yes, back in those days there were many people in high places committed to upholding our Constitutional Republic. I'm just afraid that if the same scenario developes these days we won't have the same commitment by those in power. I did read that the Joint Chiefs were given orders to ignore Nixon in his later days.

I'm 35 now. I'm actually feeling over-the-hill on a lot of these issues. I mean, I want to live in a "free country" too and see my children and grandchildren live in a free country, but what are they going to do to me now? Stop me from getting in my car every morning and going to work? It would certainly be interesting to see what would happen if Marshall law was imposed in this country. I have a strong feeling that the people are so conditioned to be in awe of authority that nothing, besides the usual protests by radicals, would really happen. People would just accept the new status quo and get on with their lives. As long as they have their beer, soap operas and football on Sunday, they won't care what form of government we have. A sad statement about our current generation of Americans.
