Whatever you say, pal. Kennedy spent a lot on defense but then again he wasn't in office long enough to bring about a peacetime economy and he had the Cuban Missile Crisis to contend with. He probably would have moved toward dovishness gradually as conditions allowed it. Reagan's visit to the Berlin wall was reminscent of Kennedy's.

It was probably no coincidence that the Vietnam build-up happened as soon as Kennedy was out of the way. Even though LBJ was a Democrat, he was the type of Dem who these days would be a GW Bush Republican. Or maybe LBJ just made an honest mistake with Nam. But I doubt it.
