You need to go study some history. Worried about the Patriot Act? Go take a look at the Alien and Sedition Acts. They never were overruled; they just quietly expired.

There have always been generals who wanted to run the country- -their way. Look at McClellan in the Civil War. He referred to Abe Lincoln as a chimp. Remind you of anyone? (HINT: Get a mirror.)

Generals want to be boss or they don't become generals. The trick is to get them to agree to let a civilian gov't run the show. So far we've succeeded.

But if some general did try to take over, or some President refused to allow elections or to let his elected successor take over, what would happen? Do you think everyone would sit back and let it happen? What would other generals do? They like living in a democracy, too, and would like their kids to. And what would the troops do? They might just remember that their guns can point both ways.

FBI collecting info on anti-war demonstrators -report By Greg Robb
WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- The Federal Bureau of Investigation has collected
extensive information on the tactics, training and organization of antiwar
demonstrators, the New York Times reported Sunday. Citing a confidential bureau
memorandum, the report said the FBI has advised local law enforcement to report any
suspicious activity at protests to its counterterrorism squads.
