Arnold did too win because of his "military" prowess. In his case it was Hollywood imagery, same as Reagan but even more. Arnold also had the advantage of a wimpy-looking rival. Though Davis won the Bronze Star, he didn't look like he could his way out of a paper bag.

Image is just as important as experience. Bush has created the image of himself as the warrior chief. That has been sold to the American people. But reality trumps fantasy in the end, which is why Kery-Clark would be unbeatable.
