Walmart is not always the cheapest store

Those of you who have read Hawaii may remember that "Castle and Cook" and the rest of the locals did their best to keep the chains out of here. The first Costco and Wal Mart were built way out in the boondocks. Now Costco has a downtown store, and Wal Mart is building a huge double with Sam's Club right next to the biggest shopping complex in Honolulu, Ala Moana. They appear to me to be the overall cheapest. But as you found, you can beat them on various items.

What impresses me is their total dedication to lowering their distribution costs. Our prices have always been high here because everything comes through Matson. They just announced a 5% rate jump for next year. You use Matson or you bring it in by air.

But the shipping does not cost that much. The locals have just got used to getting bigger margins because of the situation. Union 76 makes more money here on Gasoline than they do on the rest of their retail stations combined.

Their software definately isn't the cheapest, for one.
