He made that decision well before running for President. The tax cut is a standard Republican position. Does it work? Probably not. Does it sound good? YES. What has helped the economy grow most are 3 things: (1) Lower Interest rates (makes cost of capital lower) (2) Investment in real estate and refinancing (3) Expenditures on the War in IRAQ (creating jobs) The Democrats are concerned with helping people who can't help themselves. Do the Republicans care about them? NO. Republicans basically are only concerned about how they can make their own pot bigger - i.e. the miserly approach, and that fierce competition is the only way to determine success (Darwin's theory of natural selection). The poor and middle class, therefore, will not rise above themselves unless they adopt a Republican philosophy. Therefore everyone needs to be a Republican or else. The economy is improving, and the forecasts are good for 2004 and 2005 with forecasts of 2-3 million jobs created for each of these years. The question is will most of the jobs be at your local Walmart? The other issue, is what helps the Baby Boomers most helps the country most. In Bush's case the Baby Boomers are mostly on his side right now. Many have kept their jobs, do just barely, and have considerable savings due to the Stock Market rally during the Clinton years. An improving stock market could help Bush in their eyes, however an unstable situation in IRAQ only brings back AWFUL memories of Vietnam.
