Assimilation still works pretty well here, unlike in Europe. Well, that's because they aren't after assimilation, IMHO. One harsh fact the usually rockerless Gustave Jaegar pointed out to me about 9/11 - what really struck many of his fellow Europeans apparently was the television footage of New Yorkers running from the carnage. New Yorkers of all colors - black men in business suits, and hispanics and whites in the NYPD blue, etc. ie. American diversity. France, he noted, doesn't have negro police officers, let alone Arab ones. Derek
