My preference for generational equity would be to scrap/phase out government entitlements for seniors

Perhaps OT : In a country like India, there are no govt programs like Medicare etc - you pay if you are sick or you dont get appropriate treatment. Which is why many Indian families work on the basis of "young adults take care of their parents needs when they can not". No taxpayer is getting ripped off, no fillibusters etc - comes down to family responsibility.

I seriously recommend that all of us old codgers talk to the parents of young families and get a feel for what their expenses really are. Here is a case in point.
My daughter and son in law
About 100k joint income
daycare for two will be $1600/month
college and professional school loans roughly $80,000 around $800 per month
mortgage roughly 2000/month includes RE taxes
State, local and fed Taxes & Fica roughly total about $1200 per month Add the two modest cars and insurance add about $700/month in NJ

Total monthly is $6,300 which leaves about 2000 per month for everyting else. Fiducarily speaking they shouldnt have kids. But in our case both sets of grandparents offer significant help. I feel for those whose parents/grandparents who are not able to help. It is a disaster and crisis already here but not spoken about very often. And what about the young Walmart workers? Mike
PS Last year when i was paying my bill at a local restaurant the owner took the senior citizen discount off my bill without me asking. I said I didnt want it and that she should give it to the young family behind me who needed it more than I. Older seniors in the restaurant looked at me in disgust. One said "we paid our dues". IF my wife wasnt there i would have lost it. All the bullshit about the greatest generation and look how selfish or just plain stupid they had become. Needless to say the owner wouldnt do what i asked so i took the change and bought the kids behind me some cookies. I ate one too. Mike
