They can spin it their way no matter what. Suppose another terrorist strike had happened on US soil? They would have blamed the "liberals" and justified their own actions (to invade Iraq, Syria, Iran etc.) anyway.

Take what's happening in Iraq. The reason there are so many guerrilla attacks is supposedly because we are "succeeding". If there were no attacks, that would also be because we are "succeeding".
