Clark was right on message today. Reckless George took us into a war which was not necessary.

Dean doesn't have anything captured. He was not very strong or convincing in the debate today. He is still tied with Clark nationally and by all reports Clark is surging. Kerry may surge again soon as well. Both Kerry and Clark were very strong in the debate today, as was Gephardt. Dean seemed satisfied just to lay back and make no gaffes.

If Dean is strong in the northern liberal states that means is very weak elsewhere. You can tell where he is weakest by his bringing up more Martin Luther King quotes today. Blacks are very unlikely to embrace Dean who comes from a squeaky-clean white state. dean was also taken to the woodshed by Edwards and Sharpton on his confederate flag comment. Southerners will avoid Dean like the plague.

Another huge weakness of Dean is on defense and foreign affairs. The more troublesome the war becomes the more it is apparent we need someone who deeply undertands the issues and solutions. Also, Bush's big photo op speech with the troops today reveals dean's other glaring weakness, being able to take one single pro-military vote away from him.

Most important, the polls which show dean 20% behind Bush in a match-up are really poison to his campaign. Don't think party activists don't notice. Sooner or later the media is going to spread the word. So far so good for Dean, but he's walking through a minefield.
