(Reuters) - At an Army base hard hit by Iraq war losses, President Bush huddled privately on Monday with the families of 26 of the dead and vowed to answer attacks on U.S. troops with more force as he defended the invasion and his response to mounting casualties. "We're sending a clear message: Anyone who seeks to harm our soldiers can know that our great soldiers are hunting for them," Bush told Fort Carson troops and families on a stop en route to an extended vacation at his Crawford, Texas, ranch. The face-to-face meeting at Fort Carson with 98 bereaved family members lasted 1 hour and 40 minutes, and came just hours after the president signed a record $401.3 billion defense bill. At the sprawling base in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains, Bush ate fried chicken and corn on the cob with 170 troops before telling a crowd of about 5,000 that he would not retreat in the face of attacks against soldiers in Iraq and civilians in Turkey. "I want to thank the families of the fallen soldiers who are here with us today. Our prayers are with you. We ask for God's strength and God's guidance," Bush told the troops. "Our nation will never forget the sacrifice their loved one made to protect us all." ----------- Don't bother reading the whole article (nothing special there) just an interesting juxtaposition I thought with the news here tonight in Las Vegas. Nice shots of Bush and the wife arriving in Las Vegas for some r and r. Maybe it should have read: "Our nation won't forget, but I'll be forgetting in about twenty-five minutes as soon as I get to a good craps table and pound back a few brews in the privacy of my plush hotel suite or at one of the mansions of my loyal "pioneer" contributors." ah if only someone would get a pic of him and the wife tonight at one of our many strip clubs -lol- oh just dreaming guess that Commander-in-Chief suffering like the troops bit wears thin pretty quick for an elite, maybe he's been doing his part by foregoing an appetizer before meals while the boys are in harms way
