But on the comparative scale, in measure to the resources and lives directed into this Iraqi effort, the return is mighty nil. In effect, our soldiers are being asked to die in vain. Bush should begin thinking about this whenever he next sneaks into a church and has a moment of thought to himself.

Whoops! I forgot. Presidents never 'sneak' into church. After all, this can be done with great fanfare.

You're right. We're doomed! They're doomed! Everybody except a few, that is.

I mention myself because I never got the impression that the Administration thought it would be easy.

I do think that the Administration has encountered more problems than it had expected, but not than it had contemplated as possible. I do not think there has been poor planning. I think that one cannot expect smooth sailing at every turn, and that the Administration has, in fact, been changing tactics over time.
