Ah your memory and resentment is long. By no means I suggested that India is leading or anywhere near United States drug manufacturers. I was simply suggesting that CIPLA did not have any hesitation in contributing to African nations where as western manufacturing companies wanted to make a tidy profit on death and devastation in Africa.

Sure, I am proud of how far India has come along. The epidemic at home is more due to the cultural taboos that made it difficult to send a message across the masses a couple of decades ago (despite Rajiv Gandhi's early attempts). Now there is "relatively" higher level of awareness and aknowledgement (however I admit India is half a generation away from where US level awareness). I expect this rise in epidemic to plateau out once horrific deaths become apparent to common people.

BTW: MR GLOAT, from your own article, closer to a million people in US are infected with AIDs which puts it at about the slightly less percentage of people infected in terms of overall population. India has atleast 3 times the population of US which resides in 1/3 rd of the land area.

CIPLA and other drug companies will surely come through for AIDS sufferers in India as well. They have the legal means of producing AIDs drugs and I doubt that they abuse their pricing capabilities like we see with western Pharmaceutical companies - which at the moment are raising toast to the goodies they will get due to medicare bill overhaul.

Further, don't worry that India will overtake US whenever I exhibit pride in my native country and it's achievements. From my perspective it is now viewed differently than before - a land of snake charmers. (I have to admit Ish on this thread felt that we poor Indians followed around cows so that soon as they died we could eat their meat - so we have still someways to go - LOL)
