On the question of the choice of Solaris or Linux for AMD systems... Solaris is simply engineered better for larger SMP systems. That said, I would hope that Sun would support full 64-bit versions of both Solaris and Linux for AMD. Some people will want Linux for no other reason than that's what they are familiar with (this can be a legitimate business decision - see, the techy guy knows business needs). Sun shouldn't care about the OS as long as it can sell its hardware.
