like saying a crack addict takes drugs simply because the dealer wants his money

You've demonstrated a unique grasp of the picture. I was going to propose the capital account and current account formed a flow not unlike electricity. The flow is a loop, requiring a complete path.

If you you impede that flow, you can do so on either side of the power cord (DC+ inhibit imports/promote exports; DC- restrict capital flows; AC works too). And as Mish pointed out, bad things happen if you do.

I wanted to expose another view which might lead to a greater understanding. I guess your crack addict example also does this. It brings into the light a judgement, that being a crack addict is a bad thing. I prefer not to be a crack addict, and I prefer not to pay interest on consumer debt. I imagine most of us are like that, which is why we post on SI.

I can see where intelligent application of leverage eases the path to wealth creation, so I'm not going to sit in judgement of the macro environment, wherein you have 250 million+ globules of desire out there making independent decisions based on their own value systems. I will worry a bit, time to time, that a good portion of those globules might be 'as stupid as pig spiddle' when it comes to understanding financial implications of their decisions.

the lumping together of disparate people and opinions and temporalities into a nebulous miasmic impression is not particularly interesting

Wow, that statement truly is crafted.

Just because I've never come out and said it, I'm going to, though I don't think you need to hear it. Attacking the person rather than the message usually prompts me to click the mute button. I prefer to see the message refuted, which might lead to new understanding on my part. That one person finds that viewpoint unfounded in their reality, is mildly interesting, but not educational.

It probably wasn't appropriate of me to include reference to the past on another thread by another individual in a reply to you, but it was sitting in my craw and needed escape.... <g>

I'll have to look up some of his works.

mainstream stuff that is free is absolute garbage

It usually is content free, redundant, and often times, includes 'chestnuts of wisdom' which may be misapplied.

In this respect, unintelligent mainstream commentary is a disservice to us all, as it forms 'the stories we tell ourselves and others' thus shapes future reality.

I would prefer to see much less content and much more originality, and would likely pay more as I wouldn't have to sort out the noise. Roach is good, but trying to publish original info & insight on a forced schedule dilutes the value. I think this is true for all of us.
