last night I listened to an interview of an opera star from Jamaica, I think -- the interviewer was trying to make a big deal of this black fellow rising through the ranks -- and wanted to make a big deal especially of his being black -- he refused to be characterized that way -- I am not an opera fan, but I admired the man hearing him talk and his unwillingness to be "played" for his race -- at times he objected to the interviewers tack, but he was not cut off by the interviewer -- he was allowed to express himself completely. You just aren't going to find that sort of thing in the American press. They don't like something -- doesn't go with the party line -- they cut it off and cut it off quick.
