another provision in the Medicare bill that is a real sleeper. It approves the importation of drugs from Canada provided the Secretary of Health and Human Services certifies they are safe. I think that is actually the existing law, passed sometime in the Clinton administration. It was a way for Congress to have their cake and eat it too - pacify their constituents while not angering the pharma industry because the understanding was that no such certification would be made.
