Israeli scientists do world-class work While employed by a well-known manufacturer of mass spectrometry equipment, I met with Israeli semiconductor engineers and scientists many times to discuss the installation and use of our equipment in their billion dollar fabs. It seemed odd that we never sold equipment to Arab fabs. (Fabs??? What fabs?) --fl@sputter.com

Hi Nadine, Regarding your Begin/Thatcher post. I asked this question earlier and no one responded. It is my belief from way back when Begin took over that the settlements moved from being a future bargaining chip for arab world recognition of israel to part of an expansionist Likud agenda. During the period when Likud ran the show until Rabin, the settlements masked an attempt for a Greater Israel. During that period opportunities for peace may have been missed. Now 90% of the settlements are back in bargaining chip clothes, but given that Sharon is part of likud, pals may not buy this just as israelis will find it hard to buy a Pal acceptance of Lesser Israel or even Lessest israel(mandate). Do you think this Likud Greater Israel view during the 70s and 80s trumped bargaining chip status and hindered the chances for peace during that period and beyond? As a pro-Israel but anti-greater Israel guy, this question always gnaws at me. Mike
