I think it stinks to attack a real American special forces hero this way ... I don't know why we are talking about this religious matter on the foreign affairs thread. The only thing I can figure is it points to christianity in a negative way, and that's become the chic thing to do these days

I hope that you are able to fix your speakers, or get access to some that work. I think that you would be surprised at the remarks, once you hear them.

I have a problem with General Boykin, not because of his religion. General Boykin chose to make a speech that disparaged Islam while dressed in his uniform (lending both legitimacy and an implication that he was speaking for the Army, and the US). He specifically said that Moslems worship idols!

I respect General Boykin and have no doubt about his heroism. As an American, he has the right to say whatever he thinks. However, as a senior official involved in the war on terrorism, it is a problem if he is prejudiced against Moslems.

Freedom of speech is a right that also requires responsibility. It does not give the speaker the right to say anything with impunity, even war heroes. General Boykin needs to take responsibility for his statements and deal with the fallout.

Best wishes,
Larry
