I also think Bush pulled a wildcard showing up in Baghdad today. The guy has stones. Stupid or not, he believes in his cause.

Suicide Bomberz are another example cheap exported labor.
The economic bond that lites there fuse is the lack of a sound buisness plan and no free IPO shares. Death of the Fertile Crescent and Star Wars Guided Pink slips from the Commies invited (those whom the sandal fits) to the 'Elite Grand Order of the Dinosaur' with complimentary parking in the tar pit of social evolution.

Got Creative Destruction???

Re: 90% of people over there just wanted to grow their rice and raise their family. Suddenly a chopper straifs the village. Not understanding this is where we lost it.

AS one of those VietNam Vets that dealt with the Vietnamese in small towns & villages for a year & a half, rather than the cities, this statement is SO true. And the parallels with today’s situation can be striking.

Areas of the globe divided up into countries by outsiders (North VietNam/South VietNam vs. division of the Ottoman empire), surrounding ethnic groups gather in the militarily occupied country to cause havoc, occupying force cannot install a trustworthy government, why did a ‘liberating’ force just destroy my house?

Just read a letter to the editor of Newsweek magazine in response to the article on Cheney in which he blames the intelligence community for the guffaws in Iraq, the reader writes:
Perhaps if Dick Cheney’s “OTHER PRIORITIES” during VietNan had been side-tracked by his being drafted like those of us who served, he would know it was not the intelligence community that failed up; it was the politicians.

Sorry for the rant

An important subject, thanks for mentioning it. A couple of guys I worked with have just shipped out to Iraq. I hope they come back in one piece and without any lingering illnesses.
