It's not 72 virgins, as we know virgins. It's 72. That's an ordinal base 12 number of significance. Add them up. You get 9. The most complete single digit number. The virgins, are not virgins of the western mind. Nor are they virgins for sexual plunder, as the western mind perverts. 72 virgins is "code" for you will have the full faith and wisdom bestowed upon you for serving god. He could have also said 72 camels, but in the worth of things then, a virgin was prized more than a camel. If it was today he might have said 72 Mercedes Benzs.
