NYT's discredit leads to the likelihood of another ... but less so since they admitted it, named the perp, fired him, and fired his boss.

Would that Bush did the same. He'd gain a lot of credibility.

Admit the facts, name those involved, and deal with them.

I'm afraid at this point even if WMDs are found they won't be believed by the other pole of this highly-polarized politic. Credibility is hard to regain once its lost.

If it makes you feel any better I liked the Baghdad drop-in for badly-needed troop morale. But just to show you how the above-mentioned low credibility affects things, my next reactions were (a) "well, he's a puppet anyway so the risk for Cheney et al back home was no doubt considered acceptable", and (b) does this make attacks more likely if terrorists think higher officials are roaming around.

Unfortunately, polarization will continue until some semblance of truth is believed to be coming out of Washington.

The administration policy to the opposition is, "The beatings will continue until morale improves".
