Gore would have been in within his rights to sue over Florida and refuse to concede. Althuogh the SUpreme Court stopped the vote count, Gore could have taken the facts to the public and created a furor.

After all, the NAACP suit versus Jeb Bush and Katherine Harris as well as Greg Palast's iunvestigative reporting produced clear proof that gross fraud was committed. It turned out to have little to do with recounting votes. The fix was in from the beginning by cuting 57,700 voters off the rolls, mostly minority, mosly potential Gore voters. Bush "won" Florida by no more than 1200 votes and lost the popular vote by about 500,000.

The class Gore showed enables him to, if necessary, step in come february if and only if Dean is too far ahead for Clark, Kerry or Gephardt to stop. Gore can beat Bush in 2004 and deserves the White House. But first he will give the other non-Dean candidates their chance. If Gore had to step in, the 2-5 candidates (assuming Dean leads) would all endorse him, along with the DNC and most Super Delegates. That's about 70% of the delegates.
