Because you happen to be a Christian doesn't make you expert in Christian history....

That's true whether we're at war or peace. We must also remember the values that have made our country great. Those include both a willingness to stand up for what we believe, AND tolerance and respect for the beliefs of others.

Sure, but that does not mean you or anyone else has to take a "swan dive" off the extreme right-wing edge...
Actually, extremism of the right or the left almost always leads to big trouble.

and find your statement totally irrational.

That's a relief, coming from you I'm reassured that I'm on the right track. :)

So, are you denying that the Crusades were a bloody mess that was perpetrated by Christians? How about the Rape of Constantinople in 1292 when Roman Catholics from Venice perpetrated a genocide at Constantinople and raped and murdered 10,000s of heretical Orthodox Christians. Or how about the series of battles between Catholics in France, Spain and Holland going up against Protestants in England and Germany from the 1400's all through the 20th Century. Or how about the murderous Catholics creating the Inquisition in Spain and murdering the Moors and Jews. Or how about the Reign of Terror? Or the War of Roses, or the Hundred Year War. Christianity was crucial in each and every one of these massacres.

Quite simply, you seem to be utterly ignorant of history.

Sandy,

As a Christian, I think you'll get a kick out of this article. It describes the men that George Bush has surrounded himself with in his "fight against terrorism™".

Here's the view of the mentor of the neocons, an academic named Leo Strauss:

Because Strauss viewed religion as absolutely essential in order to impose moral law on the masses who otherwise would be out of control.

At the same time, he stressed that religion was for the masses alone; the rulers need not be bound by it. Indeed, it would be absurd if they were, since the truths proclaimed by religion were "a pious fraud."

Isn't it interesting that you as a devout Christian would be led by men who scoff at your belief and view you as a fool for having "faith"? Are you happy to be led by these immoral men? The men who think you have fallen for a pious fraud?
