Fair trade is not a scheme, in fact, fair trade is essential for the health of the United States, as well as for our national security... As for influencing "the hearts and minds" of the Chinese, that reminds me of the days that phrase or a similar one was used in the Vietnam war. In any case, it is far too late for that now with China, as it is becoming increasingly apparent the leadership will not change enough to prevent a major military confrontation with us within the next 25 years or so... The only thing we can do now, it to cut down the amount of money flowing into China they are using to become the military dictators they truly intend to be... And my priority is not to lift more Chinese citizens out of poverty while throwing American citizens into poverty and or lower middle income class jobs or part time jobs, but to do what is best for our future national security, which your so-called "free trade" is totally blind to most unfortunately for our kids and future generations... And make no mistake about it, a mad "race to the bottom" is truly insane.
