Hi KCFOS; Re: "The Island continues to drift further away from the mainland on political fronts ..."

The experience of the Hong Kongese has been to reduce Taiwan's antipathy to Communist Chinese rule. The Taiwanese know all about this, and their fear of Chinese rule has similarly decreased. What their politicians say and do is different, but it is the will of the people that is more important.

What I'm saying here, in a round about way, is that the Chinese talk of war if independence is declared and the Taiwanese talk of independence is just talk. It would be incredibly foolish if either side went ahead with their threats.

If there is a war, China will fail to conquer Taiwan, but Taiwan, but Taiwan will still gravitate towards China, just more slowly.
