Parts of the Republican Party have been predicting a Chinese invasion and/or missle attack on Taiwan for years now.

And parts of the left wing loudly predicted millions of dead in Afghanistan or Iraq, so what ?

Which is one reason why the Bush doctrine of preemption is a stupid long term policy for this country to enunciate and pursue and why we should be using this time to build strong multilateral institutions and precedents.

I don't see Taiwan or the Chinese sending suicide bombers out to murder innocent people going about their daily business in the other country. There isn't the slightest comparison between the situations in the mideast and Asia. Just another irrelevant strawman argument.

Hi Sam; Re: "I visited Taiwan and China in the 80s, and had both friends and relatives who lived there for some years ..."

I also have some contacts among the Chinese diaspora, and I agree with your observations.
