Mike. Oil prices are more highly correlated to US economic activity than even interest rates. Iraqi oil, which was flowing at a trickle, can help revive and sustain our economy if and when we increase production. Washington cares about the economy because the economy is what keeps them in office. Bringing Iraq back online after years of limited production under UN sanctions offers Bush et al a chance to preside over a decade of economic growth.
