from a cali friend

I swear what follows is TRUE in spite of the fact that
it is surreal......

I'm up at 5:10 this morning....putz around....paper
arrives at 5:25.....at 5:30 I'm reading the paper and
multitasking by watching HEADLINE NEWS ON CNN....at
5:55 Headline Lines drops off for LOCAL NEWS....in my
case, KCAL channel 9 does the local segment....believe
it or not, Michael Jackson is not #1....instead the
top story is that of Schwartenegger's budget
director---the femme who last served Jeb Bush and
before him Pataki of NY----the budget director is
appearing for what should be a "routine" uneventful
appearance before a legislative
committee------Schwartenegger had said earlier that he
wanted to float a $20 billion dollar bond issue, only
to get flack from GOPers, and consequently scaled it
down to $15 billion, which will mean there will be
immediate coverage but a probable shortfall the next
year of approx $5 billion, from what I have
read...anyway, his femme budget director who has been

going over the books for a month comes to "pump" the
$15 billion bond issue----which under california law
has to be APPROVED BY THE VOTERS------all
smiles/introductions/the GOP guy gets to say nice
things first even thought the dems dominate the
legislature, this out of deference to Scwartzee, I
guess---now comes the FIRST DEM QUESTION----a dem
femme from the central valley says: "Do you really
think in March the voters are going to approve THIRTY
BILLION DOLLARS IN BONDS?"......the budget director
says: "I'm sorry?" and looks mystified....."Do you
really think the voters are going to approve THIRTY
BILLION DOLLARS IN NEW BONDS in March?"......"we are
only asking gor $15 billion in bonds."......"Yes, but
surely you are aware that a $14.9 billion bond issue
for education has all ready qualified and will be on
the March ballot?" ....the budget director looked
shocked....was silent for a few seconds...looked to
her right and then her left...then rose and said"

"I'm sorry, I can't stay longer. I have another
meeting."

Swear on my mother's grave...

Stay tuned....
