I just found out a little while ago that the soldier in this story is my Master Sergeant step-brother.

What a shame, Mike. You know our thoughts are with you and your family. The Internet sure shrinks the world. A bomb in Iraq personally affects people around the world who read this board.

I was thinking of this yesterday when you and Steven had an exchange about events in the Philippines. You were both connected in some ways to the same people.

I know you will keep us posted.
Bill

Thanks for sharing. I hope he is all right and not very serious injuries. Please let him know how much support he has from us folks.

Hope he gets home on or before schedule and the Medical staff do not have to hold him up for some reason. His parents will feel much better if they see him as soon as possible.

It sounds like he isn't too concerned for his own safety....how so like an American military man.....and making this incident out to be just a little something. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him.....as it does for all of the fine people representing us in Iraq.......I hope you tell that to him and his (your?)parents .

UW, This should cheer your step-brother up :

news.bbc.co.uk

US 'kills dozens' in Iraqi city
The US military has reported killing 46 militants and wounding 18 in clashes in the central Iraqi city of Samarra.
Five US soldiers and a civilian were wounded in the fighting which raged as militants made a series of attacks on convoys in the city on Sunday.

Eight militants were also captured, US spokesman Lieutenant Colonel William MacDonald told reporters.

News of the fighting comes after a weekend of bloody ambushes across Iraq, largely targeting American allies.

Colonel MacDonald said the US forces had fought back with tank fire as they were attacked by militants wearing uniforms of the pro-Saddam Fedayeen fighters.

This is interesting. From Hack's site.

ALERT: Seeking Information

Doing a story on a November 7, 2003 Black Hawk shootdown in Iraq.

A JAG CSM and JAG CWO were the paxs. They and the air crew of four were KIA. Bird was flying trail behind another Black Hawk carrying the Army's JAG, two star Romig and his ADC, a Col. Reported altitude was 250 feet over a riverbank known to be an insurgent hideout... Why were they so low? Sightseeing or preparing to land?

This seems like a Pentagon general playing Cowboys and Indians for future war stories while using critically needed aircraft in a combat zone. Staffers there tell me this crap happens all too often and that their time is wasted on doing endless pony and dog shows for the "visiting firemen" who simply take them away from the war...

Opps, in this case six good soldiers are dead.

Need your input -- off the record and no names is fine -- ASAP

Thx Hack

"The military said a soldier was seriously wounded ...."

Good to hear he says he's fine uw. Let's hope that's the
case (and the article was simply hyped) & he does get to
come home a little sooner. He'll be in our thoughts &
prayers.
