I have merely heard others use that verse to attempt to teach that this physical earth will never end. I personally do not believe the bible teaches it ends or goes on. I do have to admit however that I lean toward an end - but that end is based on my understanding - from being taught that the sun will eventually burn out or that the earth could not sustain life forever and would run out of resources etc. I can point to no biblical passage that teaches the earth end. Including 2 Peter 3:12 "elements" in scripture do not point to the periodic chart. It is unfortunate that the early biblical translators were a tad eager to allow their own belief system to foul such passages. I do like Rotherham's concerning the word aion but his arminian beliefs tainted other verses I think :-) Men are but men in the end... John 2:25 and because he had, no need, that anyone should bear witness concerning man; for, he, understood what was in man. Another verse however is this one that may cause men to believe the earth last: Gen 8:21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. 22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. It appear to teach that even though man is evil from his youth that God would not judge the earth again with destruction as He did in the days of Noah. Individual nations were judged including Israel but not the whole earth. Brian
