Read it any way you want; Intel's intentions are clear - they are going to put wimax into smartphones and use the fixed station networks previously seeded for fixed CPE's to provide vehicular speed mobility to subscriber units of various form factors - phones, pda's, notebooks, car gateways, etc.

Intel claims wimax will go to the same size in silicon as wifi - that means it's a 3g killer when voice comes over IP since it's QoS is far superior to WiFi's.

TI has acquired a lot of 802.11/16 expertise lately as well ....
