H0db,
I have no idea why you are still "debating" this, when the truth is that there is no serious desire in China to invade Taiwan, nor is there any necessity. The Chinese are getting what they want from Taiwan for now--lots of investment and entrepeneurial energy and know-how. They are hardly incompetent, and are busy developing those things for themselves at a pretty rapid rate. At some point, perhaps after 20, 30, maybe 40 years, the mainland will be powerful enough to simply see Taiwan as somewhat irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Demographics is at the root of many things, and they are in China's favor.

Carl, I think that most public sources on the Strait balance are out of date, primarily because of the pace of Chinese modernization.

And I get the sense (from your particular use of military verbage) that you are more knowlegable on the topic than you are letting on... ;0)

But poor Carl apparently hasn't recognized this and continues to play the "sexual intellectual" on the issue....
