Hi Elmat - Many of the immigrants who attend US universities, especially in hard science, business, engineering, medicine, find a way to stay by being hired by industry (road to money), becoming a grad student / teaching assistant (road to poverty), or marrying someone with the right to work or live in the US (triumph of optimistion)

Population is dwindeling is some places for a good reasons -economics, and the places are damn boring with crappy climates. Besides, why send a solid state physicist to Des Moines Iowa when Intel needs them in California ?

There is a US Dept. of Agriculture program to get doctors to work in remote areas in return for scholarship money and/or green cards.

As for cabbies.....

Cabbies -

Here in Silicon Valley, we have one or two cab companies run by Sikhs, and they are pretty good drivers, and know their way around. We have some Russian and other former Soveit Union, and some other Middle eastern people, except Iranians. These guys vary in their compentence. Iranians don't drive cabs here, they are business men.

In the rest of the US , i get all kinds.

In Boston I got a Russian who had issues with directions - had to go out of town to a universwity conference center. The place was hard to find, but he got lost about 5 times....

New Yorker cabbies are pretty good, at least they aren't actors any more ;-). Some Irish.

In Chicago I got a Jamacian who got lost going to Motorola in Shaumberg (a very common destination) and did a U -turn o na four lane road with traffic. I was feeling mellow, but he a dangerous idiot.

Taiwan had enough traffic it didn't move fast.

Paris has slightly scary drivers.

But Boston is WAY scarier than either. Once made it from the airport to our hotel in about 18 minutes at 4:30 pm with a mad Russian driver - he avoided a back up by crossing the double yellow line (only one or two cars comming) and going about 65 on city streets to do a BIG loop the congested parts of downtown to get us to our hotel...

Went around some curves at the edge of drifting ...

knew the city, but ....I LIKE living.

Imagine how it will look by 2020.

Try 2050... Massive herds of bison free-ranging from Canada to Mexico, amid tens of thousands of wind turbines generating electricity for hydrogen electrolysis.
