LB,
Syrians have a history of being very picky negotiators regarding the minutia of a settlement while at the same time being very scrupulous in keeping agreements they make. Thus this would seem to be a good first step. Even before assad jr. took over the Syrians always felt that the Golan issue needed to be resolved before the larger Palestine issue. There is some logic to that position. They also have no love for Arafat and substantial influence over Hizbollah. Mike

This is an obvious ploy. Syria is giving Hizbullah a free run in Lebanon, openly aiding the Ba'athists and sending jihadists to kill American troops in Iraq, but now we're supposed to drop everything and run to the "peace table" because Boy Assad has indicated he might be willing to talk? Kick that football one more time, Charlie Brown!
