Indeed. And I can tell you it's a big step to take. Before I did, I spoke to many people but particularly to one or two who I respected and who had done it themselves . It's not only a question of the money, which is an enormous consideration, but there are existential considerations which are just as important. Firstly, the total loss of any "identity" which one has gained through work and, secondly, what does one do for the rest of one's life? I have heard of many who attempt to do this and then subsequently return to work for whatever reason. And there is also the one who becomes so miserable and depressed that he simply dies in misery.

That's when I did it --- and I have never looked back! But it definitely does require a big change in mind-set. When I "retired" I became active at two hobbies --- ham radio and jazz drumming and, as result of these plus doing household chores and investment analysis etc, I found I was busier when I gave up work than before. Not only that, but I was distinctly happier. Today, ham radio has become a thing of the past and I spend most of my time on the internet. I have also become quite a good cook!
