After all, if the Internet were as powerful at finding the truth as you suggest, wouldn't BUSH/CHENEY 1984 just shut it down? Or are these enemies of the people so smart that the realize that just as in previous iterations of totalitarian nightmares like Hitler's Germany or Stalin's USSR that the political monsters can simply dismiss the intelligentsia as being too sophisticated to control the masses of dolts that middle-brow autocrats rely on for their legitimacy? Here on SI, we see the tip-of-the-fascist-leaning-iceberg. They can be found regularly cackling to each other on the RWE thread and other obscure islands of insanity and greed. But these are among the smartest of the breed, because they read and are engaged. The ones that really should scare us are the millions who are entirely disengaged from education, information and intelligence and simply rely on the late night comedy shows, hate radio or the Faux News for their opinions. These are the really profoundly scary people, because they are such simple clay for master opinion moulders like BUSH/CHENEY 1984 to manipulate.
