The air we breathe "too costly"? So if it saves money it's better to pollute more? That while we spend hundreds of billions making wars for oil overseas and paying hundreds of billions more on corporate welfare.

The fact is that polution in general kills the Golden Goose which lays the eggs of a high standard of living. That goes anywhere in the world. Once you kill that goose she's dead. No more eggs. But the real crime here is the cash for pollution deals the Bushies seem to be cutting. Otherwise allowing polluters to go hog wild makes no sense. Pollution has never created jobs or enhanced an economy except in a very short term way. Longterm pollution always destroys economic health, as well as physical health.

These people are just gone. They're like the zombies in Night of the Living Dead, bumping into the walls of reason, trying to fight their way through the cracks of logic, corroded hands extended, blindly groping for our minds. Muttering inanities about oil, chimps and AWOL, these beasts appear from nowhere, determined to conquer what remains of intelligent life on earth.

One of the difficulties the environmental lobby has is that we are generally gaining in longevity and overall health, which suggests that most pollution is under control

Could those gains in "longevity and overall health" have anything to do with improved healthcare, especially re better medicines over the past couple of decades starting with the invention and use of penicillin?

Pollution is not the only thing that is harmful to health, you know...
