I am looking for a resumption of the secular bear by mid-2004. The cyclical bull within the secular bear is a little over a year old. There are warning signs everywhere -- in bond prices, gold prices and in the enthusiasm for stocks, in increasing debt levels, increasing budget deficits, trade deficits.

The so-called recovery is akin to shooting oodles of painkillers into a guy that has broken both legs and then applauding as he takes a few steps.

The best-case scenario that I can think of is hyper-inflation taking effect as soon as next year and stocks and bonds getting creamed, together with a resumption of the recession. That is the best-case scenario.
