Bush is the president, so I blame the complete devastation of the federal budget on him, this happened in his watch, as well as a complete lack of interest in dealing with the economic problems of the day.

I'm leaving off the Iraq war starting for now.

The thing is that there is all this anecdotal evidence that there are huge issues related to employment and pay in the US. Combine this with the "Bush negative" ratings over 40%- I've never seen that- has any president EVER been that high even Carter?... there is a connection and unless the Bush people deal with it he is out. Since I don't see him doing anything (ignoring the trade war he tried to start)... and there is realistically a 6 mos window before election decisions are made, I can't see how he turns this boat around.

I can almost guarantee you that people whose pay has been cut by 30-40% in Bush's term will charge to the polls with a no vote on anything that ever even touched Bush.

Bush thinks he is buying votes with the pork but really he is just buying corporate support. The workers, people in the trenches are being cut by the same corps Bush is dumping money on. That is his error in judgement. By workers I mean anybody making under about $150K btw.
