have you ever been to shenyang? at this time it appears china is more concerned about jobs than what ever is in their air or water. china has lots of unemployed (and underemployed government people -- we'll pretend to work if you'll pretend to pay us), so i think china will be worried about jobs for a long time.

Another potential solution to mercury in coal

In case it goes stale the gist of the segment highlighted some entrepreneurs that have technology to reduce the emissions. The featured technique is pressure cooking the coal to extract the water (where most of the metals, sulphur, etc. are contained). This resulted in reducing 30% water content to 5% ( As I recall)

The point is why not take the bad stuff out ahead of the burning process?
