This shows the futility of expecting the Federal Government to be able to improve local voting process. You cannot have a rational dispassionate discussion of the relative merits of different options. Partisans on both sides grab on to the issue and twist and squeeze to extract the maximum political juice until all that's left is a worthless mashed rind.

But the Feds are now involved and once engaged they never let go. Local tax payers will be stuck with gigantic bills for buggy, faulty, pieces of trash provided by politically connected but inept companies.

I doubt we will ever have a generally perceived "fair" election ever again.

"there is no evidence that the machines miscounted. But there is also no evidence that the machines counted correctly."

I'll never feel comfortable until this audit trail issue is resolved. Until then, my required faith in Diebold and others makes voting a religious experience.
