Haven't you heard? Lawyers everywhere are sending all their paralegal work to India.

<edit>

I'm being sarcastic, in case it wasn't evident.

the reason I mentioned paralegals (I know nothing about that profession, myself)- is that the website which is a sounding board for the SCO Linux battle (this is where SCO corp is suing everybody saying they "own" the open source Linux product)- which I read everyday, is loaded with out of work paralegals who comment on the merits of this case.

Anyway the problem with looking this stuff up on the web is that there are millions of articles and comments on it and I have to slog through article after article to see if any real statistics are there. This one came up on a paralegal search from McKinsey so it is probably a quality piece, although I will caution that any McKinsey or Accenture or management consulting pov on this offshoring issue is WAY biased towards offshoring- they never mention the risk of loss of US market for example which is not good analysis imho.

By moving service industry work to countries with lower labor costs, US companies can focus on creating higher-value jobs.

One thing that can't easily be offshored is high-level attorney work which requires state licensing (lower level stuff can be handled by paralegals in India, so say goodbye to those formerly high paying jobs too).
