There are a couple of differences between the McCain and Kerry situations. McCain was never a front runner in NH, as was Kerry. In terms of the electronic media, NH is a suburb of MS. McCain was fresh to the voters of NH, Kerry is not. They already know him and they appear to have made up their minds. Granted, the situation could change.

The other difference is that Bush had not yet been tested as a national candidate. He had not participated in the early debates and he did not look natural campaigning in NH. I recall seeing film of him on the day before the primary trying to connect with voters on the streets of NH. He looked very out of place. Dean is a natural and looks increasingly comfortable and confident.
