You just told a lie about Gore. Nixon was the one who ordered the military to keep Gore out of harm's way in Nam because he didn't want Gore's father to have sympathy votes if his son was slain. Get your facts right.

Unlike GW, Gore volunteered for combat duty and went over. When Bush's turn was coming up, he just went AWOL, disappeared. Something to do with the mandatory drug test he refused to take as well.

I didnt get the impression Dean committed FRAUD related to his back. His story is that the Army medical ruled him unfit for duty, although he actually was fit for skiing, and other ardorous tasks. This brings up a point that I have always felt (and I am sure will be denounced by many on this board) and that is IMHO everyone should be drafted (at least all males) with very LIMITED medical excuses. WHY, cause based upon my experience a stint in the Military is GOOD FOR YOU. For instance, I weighed 139#'s when I joined the USMC and 160#'s when I got out. My friend was a BLOSSOMING 200+ pounder and he also weighed about 160lbs when he got out. (poor guy was sent to "fat mans" platoon in P.I.) Both of us were in OUTSTANDING HEALTH. Many in my platoon were from the inner cities and never saw the real world. We were taught discipline (something I lacked earlier) and many other things. All in all it was a good experience. There is a job for everyone which is why medical deferments ought to be limited. jdn
