** OT ** That you on the windsurfer in your profile video?

Incidentally, the maximum speed for catamarans and to a lesser extent windsurfers is limited by an interesting phenomenon (at least, it's interesting to me).

The water has to flow around the hull, and in doing so, the pressure is affected according to Bernoulli's equation. At some speed, the pressure near the hull reaches the vapor pressure of the gasses suspended in the water.

It's called cavitation, and in essence the sea water starts to boil. At that time, effective hull friction goes up dramatically and no amount of wind will make it go faster. It's called the hull speed, if memory serves.

Like relativity limiting space travel speeds, it's just one of those little fun physics facts you can't get around.
