I cannot think of any international issue more difficult to comprehend that the issue of Israel and Palestine -- I am trying to learn.

Worse than usual reporting. Notice how the words "stop terrorism", step 1 of the Road Map, never get mentioned? The only issue in dispute, apparently is the Israelis fence (which btw just allowed a Jenin suicide bomber who was aiming to blow up a middle school to be apprehended because he had to go the long way around a section of the fence) that is the only bone of contention.

As for Mr Qurei, he is awaiting the outcome of talks between the various Palestinian factions meeting in Cairo this week. He wants them to agree a ceasefire so that he has something in his hand when he finally sits down with Mr Sharon

The Egyptians are advising the Palestinians on strategy. They say, declare a cease-fire then claim you've implented the road map. Of course a cease-fire can go off and on any time. Even when it's on the Palestinians intepret it to mean "no large scale attacks, only two or three dead at most".
