Air China expects return to profit in 2003
It revives plans for a possible share sale in Hong Kong

(HONG KONG) Air China, the country's biggest international carrier, said it will make a profit in 2003, recovering from its 2 billion yuan (S$414 million) first-half loss as air travel resumed after Sars abated.

The carrier had net income of 600 million yuan in October, allowing it to break even for the first 10 months of the year, said Fan Cheng, head of its corporate planning division in a telephone interview. The Beijing-based airline will earn a profit in November and December, which are traditionally low seasons for China's travel market.
