I would think that it is like a breath of fresh air compared to what you get on Manila TV.

Manila TV is pretty awful, though like all TV it is pretty easy to avoid anything more than peripheral contact, for the most part. There is one network (which we of course don’t get, in my location) that does a decent job of presenting local news. The woman running it is someone I respect a good deal: she was a news anchor during the late Marcos years, and developed a magnificent way of reading the canned news of the day with a set of vocal and facial expressions that, while subtle enough to keep her out of jail, very clearly communicated “if you believe this shit, I have a bridge I’d like to sell you”. Needless to say, she developed quite a following, and timed her eventual and inevitable resignation perfectly. Had a real impact on the fall.
